MIRACLE KIDZ SAFE HOUSE PROFILE

MISSION STATEMENT

To provide a safe and loving temporary home to abused, abandoned and neglected children. Furthermore, to feed, clothe and attend to any medical requirements that are needed and to introduce them to a family structure thus preparing them for the future.

WHO WE ARE AND WHAT WE DO

Miracle Kidz is a safe house for abused, abandoned and neglected babies and toddlers. A number of the babies either have FASD (Foetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders) ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder) or are drug babies.

Our safe house is not an orphanage – the children do have biological parents and if conditions have improved these children will be reunited with their parents, otherwise sent to foster homes or children’s homes.

We care for mainly babies and toddlers, but have had emergency placements of older children.

We do not only see to it that they are fed and clothed, but also provide a loving temporary home for them. We tend to their illnesses, broken hearts and spirits.

We believe each one of the kids is indeed a Miracle, for they are survivors of abuse, abandonment and neglect.

OUR CULTURE & VALUES

As far as possible we aim to institutionalize Miracle Kidz Safe House. Although we do have a defined structure in the home our environment reflects a Loving Caring Home with values based on Biblical commandments.

LOVE, HONOR, RESPECT, TRUTH & WISDOM

HOW IT ALL STARTED

It has always been Elsie’s dream and desire to care for abandoned babies. Elsie was abandoned by her biological parents when she was 9 months old and placed in a foster care. This experience laid the foundation for what she does today.

Elsie became a foster parent in 1997 to a little girl (who at the time was 18 months old), and a year later to a boy (then 5months old) – whom she has since adopted. Elsie then decided to open her heart and home to more children in need of a safe place to stay and someone to care for them.

Her first ‘safety baby’ – a tiny 7-day old girl – was placed with her in 2006. A month later her brother joined. They were placed in Elsie’s daughter’s foster care.

Thereafter, we’ve cared for many babies and toddlers, who have since been placed in foster care with other families, been adopted or have gone back to their biological parents.

There is a great need for safe houses and people willing to care for these children. We are delivering a service to the community that makes a big difference in little people’s lives.

OUR STRATIGIC INTENT (LONG TERM VISION)

We want to see Miracle Kidz Safe House grow - our ideal is to be able to care for more children.

We would ultimately like to extend our house which will allow us to provide more living space for more children. Currently we have 1 toddler with Cerebral Palsy Living with us. For us to keep the homely atmosphere, we want it to be a house, not just a facility where children live and people come to feed and play with them etc.

We ideally would like expand our current home where children can stay with us in foster care until they are grown up. Like a Village where FASD young adults can have their own cottages and go to work learn skills and become young responsible individuals that make a meaningful contribution to society.

We have also identified a need for a “special needs” school for our children as most of them have FASD and are not able to attend mainstream schools. We have started a play school for the children from the house. From time to time (intermittently) we have qualified teachers that have volunteered their time and are assisting with the children, but could do with more hands

THE THINGS WE NEED (SHORT TERM GOALS)

As a non-profit organization, we do not always have funds readily available for food, nappies, formula, toiletries and medical care. We rely on sponsors and donations to feed, clothe and otherwise care for the children.

It is a huge financial obligation, and in order to continue doing our work, we need sponsors who are willing to assist. We do not receive any assistance from the government and only receive R27 a day for babies in our safe care.

We need R50 000 a month to cover our operating expenses:

  • Rent
  • Salaries & Wages
  • Groceries
  • Petrol
  • Medical Bills
  • Educational needs of the kids

All of this we pay for by doing fundraising.
