ABOUT

Antonio Vivaldi's cycle of descriptive violin concertos, “The Four Seasons”, counts among the most famous music ever devised. However, another cycle of four recorder concertos with descriptive titles by the same composer has remained in (relative) obscurity, namely:

     Concerto La Francia (France)

     Concerto La Spagna (Spain)

     Concerto L'Inghilterro (England)

     Concerto Il Gran Mogol (India)

The three concertos La Francia, La Spagna, L'Inghilterro and the original version of Il Gran Mogul are unfortunately lost.

The Cape Town Baroque Orchestra is happy to present Matthias Maute's reconstruction of these four concerti, with the virtuoso Maute himself as soloist. Each concerto is preceded by a prelude composed in the country that the ensuing concerto is dedicated to.

Date: Sunday, 23 October

Time: 16:00
