Our next workshop brings us a step closer to designing our own teacher motivation plans. During the session, we will dive into what some outstanding schools are doing to drive and sustain teacher motivation.

Speakers:

Waahida Tolbert-Mbatha, Co-Founder and Head of School: Kgololo Academy 

Waahida is the co-founder and head of school at Kgololo Academy. Prior to establishing Kgololo Academy, Waahida worked for seven years as a middle school humanities teacher and as an after-school program coordinator. Waahida holds a Master’s of Science in Education Policy and Community Studies from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and a Bachelor of Arts degree from Berea College in Education. Waahida also completed the Global School Leadership Fellowship with KIPP. 

Nneamaka Enechi - Nova Pioneer

Nneamaka Enechi’s career in education started 18 years ago and spans two continents - Africa and North America. She has extensive experience in teacher development, coaching and instructional leadership as well as curriculum design, whole group and differentiated lesson planning, and pedagogical and classroom systems.

Nneamaka is currently Dean of Instruction at Nova Pioneer Schools for Innovators and Leaders in Johannesburg, where she coaches emerging coaches, teachers, and teaching teams. Prior to this, she taught elementary students at Brooke Charter School, one of the highest performing schools in the state of Massachusetts. She is also the founder of EdVigor Inc, a non-profit organisation that provides professional development for teachers in Nigeria.

In her professional work, and during her time at the Harvard Graduate School of Education, Nneamaka has studied school cultures and enjoys working with teachers and schools to build positive classroom and school-wide environments, establish teaching teams, introduce sustainable data systems, develop a culture of collegiality and also nurture peer learning. She has a BA in English/German from the University of Nigeria, an Ed.M. in Learning and Teaching from the Harvard Graduate School of Education and an M.Ed. in Elementary Education from the Eastern Nazarene College, Massachusetts.

James Malope - Leap Schools

James grew up in Honeydew, Johannesburg. He attended Kingsway Primary School in Randpark Ridge and completed his Grade 12 at LEAP 1 School in Cape Town in 2007. James graduated from the University of the Western Cape in 2011 with a degree in education and joined the LEAP 4 School in Diepsloot as an English and Life Orientation teacher.  He has been part of the Global citizen campaign as one of the ambassadors in 2018.

In 2013 James took on the position of Instructional Leader at the LEAP 4 School in Diepsloot, where he became part of the management team. In January 2017, James was appointed School Leader at the LEAP 4 School in Diepsloot. In 2018, he completed his honours in educational management and he is still the school leader of Leap 4.
