afrimapr community meetup: Using Spatial Analysis in Strategic Decision-Making

Wed Jul 27, 16:30 - Wed Jul 27, 17:30

Event is online

ABOUT

In Nono's very first data science consulting gig, he performed a spatial analysis to help a company choose the most optimal branch location in the Dallas - Fort Worth (DFW) area in Texas. In this talk, he will readapt the methodology he used to demonstrate some very useful spatial concepts and how they can be applied to data. The talk will be about densities, buffers, intersections, custom metrics and other useful spatial concepts. More importantly, you will have the opportunity to use his code and adapt it to a country of your choice.

afrimapr’s monthly virtual meetups aim to support the development of an active African R mapping community. It offers you a chance to learn about new resources, ask questions, showcase your work, and grow your R mapping network.

Come along and say “Hello!” No preparation or experience with R or mapping needed!

Our speaker

Prof Ghislain Nono Gueye (Data Science Trainer and Consultant)

G. Nono Gueye is an Ivorian-Cameroonian economics professor at Louisiana Tech University (USA). He obtained his Bachelor's in Economics at Central University (Accra, Ghana) and his Master's and Ph.D. in Economics at Auburn University (Alabama, USA). Having been introduced to coding in high school, he learned several programming languages until he discovered R in graduate school. R became his language of choice because of its expansive suite of analytical/statistical tools. He soon discovered that R could do more: web applications, dashboards, reports, presentations, and even geospatial analysis and mapping. Today, he is a data science trainer and consultant as part of the team at Kingdom Academy.
