Sat Sep 9, 11:00 - Sat Sep 9, 13:00

6 Spin Street Gallery and Restaurant

ABOUT

In addition to their regular series at the Baxter, the Cape Town Concert Series occasionally collaborates with artists in other venues for a more intimate concert experience, and is delighted to bring you a morning of Music and Conversation with cellist Torleif Thedéen on Saturday 9th September at 6 Spin Street Gallery in Cape Town - with support from the Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra. Spin Street is well known for chamber concerts - and provides for a relaxed environment to meet the musicians after the concert and hear more about their music making.

Swedish cellist Torleif Thedéen is one of the most distinguished instrumentalists in the Nordic countries and enjoys an international profile as a recitalist, concerto soloist, recording artist and pedagogue. He is a first prize winner of international cello competitions, including the Casals Competition. He is Visiting Professor of Cello at the Royal College of Music in London and Professor at the Norwegian Academy of Music in Oslo.

He is opening the CPO Spring Symphony Season at the City Hall on 7th September, presenting masterclasses for young cello students through the CPYO and will then present this recital with pianist Luis Magalhaes, with whom he performed earlier this year at the Theatro Circo, Braga - Portugal.

Their programme will include works by Schumann, Schubert and Shostakovich
