ABOUT

The spirit of Oliver Tambo will come alive through stories in October, the month in which the late freedom fighter and leader of the African National Congress (ANC) would have turned 102. Imbawula, the storytelling platform, and the Oliver & Adelaide Tambo Foundation, are proud to present Tambo Lives!, stories about or inspired by Oliver Tambo.

Imbawula is a platform designed to connect us to our shared humanity through storytelling. We are a nation full of stories, most of which are never told. Our stories make us feel seen and heard, in a world that ignores many voices.

These stories – told by different generations – will look into the man that was Oliver Reginald Tambo - his influence, his values, personal anecdotes and contemporary significance. The featured storytellers will be Minister of State Security Ayanda Dlodlo; journalist and activist, Pontsho Pilane; senior business executive, Lindiwe Sangweni-Siddo and Brand Africa expert, Thebe Ikalafeng. Having come of age in exile, Dlodlo and Sangweni-Siddo had the honour of personally knowing and learning from Tambo. Ikalafeng – who recently attained the rare feat of visiting every single African country – is one of the continent’s greatest advocates . Pilane, an early alum of the Imbawula stage, has a fine record of social justice activism and journalism in women’s rights and health, as well as in education.

The show will be hosted by radio veteran and MD of Kaya FM, Greg Maloka. As usual, the soulful voice of Melo B. Jones will provide the soundtrack.

Proceeds from this show will assist in the provision of rape survivor kits and sanitary pads in Tambo’s birthplace, Nkantolo, in the Eastern Cape.
