ABOUT

Psychological first aid is a simple, yet powerful way of helping someone in distress. This workshop is for anyone working with people who might not have basic counselling skills or not sure what to do in a crisis but particularly with children.

Arise has trained many educators and church workers in understanding what to do when someone is in distress, and how to refer to those who can carry on supporting that person

The workshop will cover the following:

  • To understand what psychosocial first aid is and when to get involved;
  • To learn practical ways of showing listening and support through SOLER skills,
  • To know the role of child protection- what is the educators mandatory response in a situation that might need adult intervention;
  • To understand the importance of connection with a child & knowing & understanding boundaries as a helper;
  • To equip you with an increase knowledge of role modelling & be aware of your own emotions;

The workshop will be interactive with an opportunity to practice some of the skills learnt while doing case studies and discussions.

Participant in previous workshop said; "I always freak out when I see someone in distress, this was excellent and really practical skills. I feel confident that I can apply this in the classroom. Thank Arise."

Another participant said, "Knowing what I can and cannot do is so empowering. Thank you!"
