POPIA may not be in effect yet, but GDPR is. If you have clients that are resident in the EU, passing through the EU, or are EU citizens, you need to comply with GDPR even if you're based in South Africa! Data Protection is more than just the IT Department's problem, and it is much more than just an opt-in checkbox or Privacy Policy on your website. Beyond this, there are still civil actions that can be taken against you for data breaches!
With a background in both networking and development, Ross has been in numerous executive roles in the enterprise software field. He has spent the better part of the last decade on Information Security committees and have seen a fair share of issues in that time! Ross has a particular passion for data privacy, having been a victim of identity theft and seeing first hand the impact of data breaches on both individuals and organisations. He aims to help organisations manage their data effectively, avoiding the pitfalls they may not be aware of.
Please join Ross for a Data Protection brunch on the 27th of November 2019 at the City Lodge Hotel, Waterfall, where he will be hosting a workshop on the anatomy of a data breach, how identity theft affects your clients, how the law (POPIA, GDPR) affects you, and what you can do to educate your teams around their responsibility in data protection. The event includes welcome coffee and brunch platters.
You will leave with knowledge of how the laws apply as well as some quick wins that you can implement as soon as you are back at the office! We will also conduct an interactive exercise on identifying your own company's maturity level in Data Protection compliance.
Ross will be available after the event for any discussions that you do not wish to raise in an open forum.
Ross holds an MSc in the Management of Technology, and is currently completing his EC-Council Certified Ethical Hacker designation. He is a professional member of the International Association of Privacy Professionals, the Canadian Association of Professional Speakers, and is the National President of the Professional Speakers Association of Southern Africa.
