Mon Jan 1, 07:00 - Mon Jan 1, 12:00

Amatola Hiking Trails

ABOUT

For a school project, Oscar and Alex are going to Hike the Amatola trails (100km through the Hogsback region, Eastern Cape) to raise funds for charity whilst documenting the whole experience through video and photo. The hike will be challenging; having to carry food, clothes and camera's for 6 days. The winter season boasts extremely cold temperatures and torrential rainfall. Most will take this challenge on with large groups, Oscar and Alex will have no group, no guide and no support from any other party.

The hike starts on the 21st of June and will end on the evening of the 26th.

All proceeds will be donated to the Hangberg Educational Trust:

What is the Hangberg Educational Trust (HET)?

"HET is an established, registered Trust and NPO that is closely involved in the Hangberg community – a previously disadvantaged community of mainly fishermen, their families and their offspring. HET believes that pre-school education is a key reason for the significant school drop-out rates and inability to turn around the socio-economic imbalances in this community.

In spite of a lack of funding, Hangberg Pre-Primary School still managed to open its doors in a temporary, spare classroom at Sentinel Primary School on Monday 21 July 2014 to 9 eager learners, increased to 20 little ones by Friday 24 July 2014.

The team is focusing significant efforts on fundraising to build the centre. The full economic cost for this quality centre has been set at R4million by the Trust’s Quantity Surveyor. Some funds have been raised from other NGOs as well as one corporate, but further sponsorships for the building is required."
