We’re hosting a LIVE ideas pitching session with real investors where you can learn how to pitch for funding, meet investors and alumni entrepreneurs, and gather crucial lessons from our keynote speaker, Marnus Broodryk.

USB entrepreneurs get 5 minutes to present their business to a panel of investors in the hope of securing funding.

The investor panel is convened by D’Niel Strauss (Investor, Alumnus and Extraordinary Lecturer (USB), and director of Strauss & Stocks (Pty) Ltd) who will also conduct pitch presentation coaching to the selected USB Entrepreneurs

D'Niel is a strategic leader with experience in the private equity and venture capital industries over the past 7 years. He has lectured and presented to large groups of people at various events and conferences in China, Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia and South Africa, which include lectures at the Universities of Pretoria and Stellenbosch respectively. He is a co-founder and director of Stocks & Strauss (Pty) Ltd, and has been involved in the direct and indirect investments of more than 30 companies.

Keynote speaker: Marnus Broodryk
Self-made millionaire, Shark Tank SA ‘shark’ & author of “90 Rules for Entrepreneurs”
Marnus Broodryk made his first million at 24-years old, and was the youngest ever Shark on Shark Tank South Africa. He has graced the cover of Entrepreneur Magazine and is an advocate for small businesses, has invested in them and also hosts a weekly show for small business on KykNET’s Winslyn.

Guest Speaker: Brandon Paschal
Brandon is currently Incubation Manager at the Stellenbosch University LaunchLab
He runs all of their startup programmes that help founders and teams design value propositions business models and strategies.  He has worked with 155 founders and teams and seen companies raise more than R100m in risk capital. Brandon has spoken at several startup and innovation events, including the University Business Incubator Global (UBI) Summit, Southern African Research and Innovation Management Association (SARIMA) and the South African Innovation Summit (SAIS). Brandon’s expertise is in the South African startup ecosystem (not to be confused with small business or enterprise development) as well as organisational culture design.
