Please join us on Wednesday evening, 10 October 2018, 18:15 for 18:30 when we will be joined by Candice Clarke who will be presenting on the topic: “Mindfulness and Self-Care for Business Owners” and Adv. Carien van Dijk who will be discussing “Top Tax and VAT pitfalls to avoid”.
Topic one:
As ambitious business owners, we not only wear multiple hats (with multi-taking being our favourite skill!), we have incredible pressure to deliver. Pressure we place on ourselves, as well as pressure from those around us. There is a lingering feeling in most business owners of not being able to "switch-off", and take a step back to look after themselves. There is also often a huge struggle to not remain constantly anxious about future events, or be concerned about the outcomes of past events. This absence of presence (mindfulness) and self-care, makes it incredibly hard to grow a business we will love and one that gives back more to us than it takes away.
In this talk Candice is going to introduce us to the concepts of mindfulness and self-care. She is going to walk us through how she has used these approaches practically, for herself and with her clients to ensure balance, and well-being while still achieving huge business goals. She will also open the floor for a Q & A session, so that you can better understand how these approaches may fit into your life and business specifically. You will walk away with a clearer understanding of how to balance your well-being and the success of your business. Bring an open heart, and you will leave changed!
Topic two:
Top Tax and VAT pitfalls to avoid
In this topic I will discuss the most general pitfalls that can occur for small businesses and sole props, and how to effectively avoid them. I will essentially share trade secrets that Accountants all over use for their clients, and I will inform them of the latest technology that can also be used as a resource.
Adv. Carien van Dijk is the Executive Director of Tax Services of the Supremacy Group. She is a Tax Advocate at the High Court and she is a Master Tax Practitioner at SARS. She obtained her LLB and LLM: Taxation from the University of Pretoria and is currently also a lecturer at Varsity College in Sandton. Adv. Carien previously worked at FirstRand Bank Limited, where she was the Senior PAYE and TAA Specialist, focusing on the employment and tax administration requirements of FNB and FirstRand Corporate Centre. Previously she also formed part of the Employment Services Tax Team in PricewaterhouseCoopers – Sunninghill looking after various of big brand Companies. She sits on various of industry boards and is a speaker at many public events such as NSBC Business Expo and Future of Cloud Banking Conference.
