October’s Tech Talk will be especially special. With the theme “disruption can come from anywhere”, six local start-ups - each from very different industries – will be featured!

Keynote Speaker: Marlon Parker



Marlon Parker is the founder of the Reconstructed Living Lab (RLabs), a social enterprise that has been replicated in 23 countries, impacting more than 9.2 million people. Marlon is an alumnus of President Obama’s Young African Leaders initiative, an Ashoka Fellow, a WEF Young Global Leader, a Dangote Fellow, and has been listed as one of the 100 World-Class South Africans in 2013 and 2014. Co-founder of JamiiX (the backbone to one of the largest mobile chat counseling networks in the world), he was the Lead SA Hero of 2015 and this year, was listed by Quartz as one of the top African Innovators.

Riad Masoet - Standing Tall Ventures, CEO


Standing Tall Ventures is a recruitment, training and advisory/consulting division for individuals with disabilities and the differently-abled. Standing Tall is a division of Purple Cow Ventures, a venture-based non-profit organisation. Standing Tall Ventures aids advice to like-minded organisations who seek to employ, integrate, retain and adopt inclusive workplace practices for individuals with disabilities, for a diverse and inclusive corporate landscape. Thye also specialise in financial services and banking roles at all job levels and job types for abled-bodied candidates including individuals with disabilities.

James Steere – iDropWater, CoFounder



I-Drop Water is a for-profit social enterprise that designs, builds and installs drinking water purification and dispensing machines in grocery stores at no cost, sharing income generated from water sales with store owners.This innovation is already transforming the way safe drinking water is bought and sold in Africa, aphenomenal accomplishment that saw the company announced as the winner of South Africa’s version of The Venture III and joint third at the global final. James has been awarded the Innovator of the Year for South Africa, at the All Africa Business Leaders Awards (AABLA), which awards remarkable leadership and salutes the visionaries of business in Africa.
 
 
Pauline Du Paty – Jumpin Rides, MD



Pauline du Paty is a French entrepreneur based in Cape Town. Pauline is Managing Director of Jumpin Rides, a ridesharing platform in South Africa which connects driver with empty seats in their car to passengers looking for a lift. She has 3 years of experience in launching and managing start-ups. Previously, she was Product Manager at L’Oréal and then Country Manager Spain of Mobeye, an app designed to assist brands to collect field data in real time through the consumers.

Nick Hoffman - Linebooker



Nick has over 18 years of experience in South Africa’s logistics and supply chain sector. One of the founders of Linebooker, he is also Logistics Services Manager at (CCS) Logistics, where he oversees supply chain optimisation projects, including a recent project for Oceana Group Logistics that resulted in substantial savings in its first year. Having started with CCS Logistics in 2012, Nick’s role in its Transport Division helped establishing a respectable business unit. During this time he was involved in multiple optimisation initiatives and projects across the logistics spectrum, such as stock loss reductions, operation optimisation and inventory management. Nick began his career at I&J Sales and Distribution as an admin controller.

Byron Tudhop - HeyJude App



Byron Tudhope is the Founder and CEO of TCT Digital, and the Lead Developer for Hey Jude App. After slogging away and writing Insurance Software for a few years, Byron moved into the more attractive area of bespoke product development. Byron, who has an insatiable appetite for new skills, has architected and written software in a broad range of industries including the Internet of Things, Machine Learning, Financial Tech, and Content Management. Byron lives to serve his dog, Douglas, in Cape Town, South Africa.

Crispin Inglis - PropertyFox, CEO



Crispin started his career at Rawson Properties working as their brand manager while also doing part time radio broadcasting work at KFM in Cape Town. The broadcasting took off and he eventually left Rawson to host the weekend breakfast show on KFM as well as fulfilling the role of executive producer of Cape Talk’s Breakfast Show with Aiden Thomas. A natural entrepreneur, he also started a sushi and wine bar in Cape Town’s Wembley Square.
After two years, at the age of 33, Cripsin ventured out on his own. It was well timed and he met Ashley James whose entrepreneurial spirit immediately clicked with his and together they arrived at innovative real estate business, PropertyFox. The company has found immediate resonance with South African consumers looking to save when they sell their home – it sold nearly R100-million in property in year one, and saved South Africans in the region of R5.5-million in commission fees.

Eric Ménière - i-Pay, COO



Eric Ménière is a serial entrepreneur who has helped build fast growth businesses in the high-tech digital and financial services industries for 25 years. He was instrumental for taking to emerging markets numerous innovations at the convergence of the telecoms, financial services and ID- security industries. Through his journey he developed a passion for the sharing economy, renewable energies and waste management. He strongly believes in the power of social communities, mobile, iOT and data analytics to drive growth. Back in South Africa he aims to assist African businesses take advantage of the vast opportunities brought about by the digital economy.
