ABOUT

His and Hers Jams, Concerts SA and Arte Viva Management are proud to present Asanda Mqiki, performing live at the Eyethu Lifestyle Centre in Soweto on Friday 9 February as part of her 2018 SA & Mozambique Tour.

Described as "a true Afro-Soul revelation with an insane amount of control over her notes”, Asanda's signature musical style brings together jazz, soul and funk with a splash of influences from Kwaito to R&B. Her talent has been recognised with distinctions including:
  •  Top 5 of the espAfrika espYoungLegends in October 2017 (this is the platform used by the Cape Town International Jazz festival to recognise major emerging talent)
  • Featured African artist for the inaugural online Lovebusk festival, organised out of Australia in 2016
  • Gold Ovation Award at the National Arts Festival 2015
  • Eastern Cape MEC award for Best Individual Performer 2015

Those who have seen a live performance know the passion, energy and fun she brings to the stage. Backed by an exceptionally talented line-up,  Asanda will be performing with her full band, featuring Thoba "The Drummer" Goba on drums, Grant Allison on bass, Mthoko Mabuza on keys, Qaqambile Qingana on second keys, Kamva Goba on percussion and Joash David Soobramoney on alto saxophone.

Some of Asanda's recent highlight shows include headlining the Cape Town Festival with Vicky Sampson and Jimmy Nevis, and performing at the Oppikoppi & National Arts festivals. She has performed to standing ovations across South Africa, in 2017 playing at The Orbit (JHB), Boho Bistro (BFN), as well as Harringtons, SlowLife & Jazz in the Native Yards (CPT).  She has twice performed by invitation at the Gothenberg Culture Festival in Sweden (2014 & 2015). Her “Vocal Explosion” jazz collaboration with Maya Spector played to capacity houses at the Market Theatre and the Cape Town Fringe festival.

She has shared the stage and collaborated with artists such as the legendary Sibongile Khumalo, Freshlyground, Khaya Mahlangu, Bongeziwe Mabandla, Putuma Tiso & Berita.   Asanda was previously lead vocalist for the band Take Note, with whom she released 2 albums and performed at top SA festival Joy of Jazz. Her collaboration on the song “Lizzy” with platinum-selling a capella group The Soil (with more than 310000 views on just one of the Youtube videos) has garnered her a fan base across South Africa.

Asanda's tour is supported by Concerts SA and presented by Arte Viva Management.
